Jianna Lubotsky (She/Her) is a Chicago-based director and educator, who focuses on bringing together groups of theatrical misfits to tell diverse stories through collaborative experimentation. Never shying away from the difficult or taboo, Jianna strives to create work that makes us question our role in our communities and larger society. She is drawn to what isn’t said, the moments where words are not enough, believing in the power of silence and movement. Her work is heavily based in ensemble creation, using nonconventional staging and found objects to expose the raw and authentic range of the human experience.
Some of her most recent credits include DRY LAND, AKRASIA (Ego Death Theatre Collective), US/THEM, VIOLET, STONE GIRLS DREAMING, and A KID LIKE JAKE (Illinois State University). Jianna has won multiple awards including two awards for Outstanding Direction of an Off-Main Stage Production at Illinois State University, and the Region III 2020 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's SDC Fellowship Student Directing Award for her direction of the play INDECENT. Additionally, Jianna has worked with theatres including the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and Victory Gardens Theatre, in educational outreach. Jianna Lubotsky has also been working as a educational professional teaching theatre in public schools for 5 years.
